Rain or Shine: Serving Our Community with Heart

May reminded us of something we already knew at Samaritan Place: the weather may change, but our mission doesn’t.
Throughout the month, we remained steadfast in our commitment to meet people where they are! With resources, compassion, and hope. At Belfield Recreation Center, we hosted two Food Distribution events that nourished more than just bodies. Thanks to our partnership with Sharing Access, we were able to offer fresh produce, toiletries, and resource guides to neighbors who gathered not only for groceries, but for encouragement and connection. These moments became something more than a food line; they became spaces where dignity and kindness were served just as generously.
In Kensington, alongside Provision of Grace World Mission Church, we returned to a place that holds both heartbreak and hope. At the intersection of Kensington and Lehigh Avenues, we met individuals experiencing homelessness with hot meals, hygiene kits, and most importantly, time. No quick fixes, just honest conversation, shared presence, and the warmth of being seen. These outreach efforts are among the most humanizing acts we can offer. Simple moments that remind our neighbors they are not forgotten.

On May 24, our team joined neighborhood leaders and fellow partners for the Violence Prevention Community Fair at Malcolm X Park. It was a powerful, heart-forward day filled with music, healing activities, and vital resources for survivors and families impacted by violence. Samaritan Place contributed trauma-informed materials, emotional support, and a soft place to land in a world that can often feel unsteady. Together, we grieved. We celebrated. We learned. We held space for one another.
Though the rain halted a few of our plans, it never touched the core of our mission. Each moment of service in a park, on a street corner, in a recreation center was a testament to what’s possible when communities come together with compassion and resolve.
At Samaritan Place, we believe care isn’t seasonal, it’s steadfast. No matter the weather, we show up. Rain or shine, we’ll be there.
